Sending abroad from Chase

Chase charges $40 online ($50 with a banker) to send an international wire in US dollars, and $5 online to send it in foreign currency, or $0 when that foreign-currency wire is $5,000 or more. A banker-assisted foreign-currency wire is $50.

The exchange rate is a second charge

Chase says its exchange rate includes a spread and that you should expect rates less favorable than those quoted online or in publications.

That markup does not appear on the fee schedule. Ask the bank for the rate before you confirm, then compare it with the reference rate in the calculator below to see what it costs in dollars.

Who pays less

Chase Private Client Checking and Savings pay no Chase fee on incoming or outgoing wires, and Premier Plus Checking with military direct deposit pays no Chase wire fees. The waiver does not touch the exchange rate.

Cutoff times

Chase does not publish a same-day cutoff for outgoing wires in its fee schedule or on its wire FAQ. A future-dated domestic wire can be cancelled until 11:59 p.m. ET the day before it is due to go.

Worth knowing

  • Chase Secure Checking and Chase First Checking cannot send wires, and Chase First Checking returns incoming ones.
  • An incoming wire is free if it was sent from another Chase account by a banker or on chase.com or the app.

How it works: the cost of a quote is everything you pay minus what the money the recipient gets is worth at the mid-market rate. That catches a fee and an exchange-rate markup in one number. Assumes the fee is paid on top of the amount sent; if a provider takes its fee out of the amount, enter what the recipient gets instead of the rate. The mid-market rate is the ECB euro reference rate crossed to dollars. ECB reference rates are published for information purposes only.
