Wire transfer cutoff times
A bank's wire cutoff is the latest time it will send your wire the same business day; miss it and the wire goes out the next business day. Behind every domestic wire is the Federal Reserve's Fedwire service: it opens at 9:00 p.m. ET the evening before each business day and takes customer transfers until 6:45 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday except Federal Reserve holidays.

Weekends and holidays
- Fedwire treats every Saturday, Sunday and Federal Reserve holiday as a non-business day, so a domestic wire does not settle on those days.
- A wire you schedule on a Friday evening or a weekend goes out when the next business day opens, which after a Monday holiday is Tuesday.
- The Reserve Banks can extend a cutoff on days with special market needs. Your bank's cutoff is usually earlier than Fedwire's, and it is the one that matters.

Getting a wire out today
Start it well before the cutoff, not at it. Banks hold wires for review, especially a first wire to a new recipient or a large one, and a call-back to confirm can push you past the deadline. For a home closing, send the day before if the title company will take it, after you have confirmed the wiring instructions by phone at a number you found yourself. Here is why that call matters.
These banks do not publish a cutoff we could find, so ask before you rely on a same-day wire: Charles Schwab Bank, Chase, Citizens Bank, Huntington, Navy Federal Credit Union, Regions, TD Bank, Truist.
